A&R Edelman Captures Six Industry Awards for Excellence in PR Campaigns and Media Relations

SAN MATEO, Calif., June 11, 2002—A&R Edelman, Silicon Valley's largest independent PR firm, today announced that it has earned six industry awards for PR campaigns initiated on behalf of its clients. Since January, A&R Edelman has received five awards for its unique holiday promotions campaign conducted for longstanding client, Palm, Inc. In addition, the agency received special praise for excellence in media relations from Upside Magazine.

For its nationwide "Palm Demand Generation" PR campaign, A&R Edelman was chosen among 1,000 entrants as a Gold and Grand Prize winner of the MerComm Mercury Award for outstanding achievement in professional communications. The agency received two additional awards for its work with Palm from the international Communicator Awards Media Competition, including the 2002 Print Competition Crystal Award for Marketing/Promotion Campaigns and the Communicator Award of Honorable Mention for Radio Campaigns.

A&R Edelman also received the Silver Bulldog Award in the Computers and Technology category for its Palm campaign; the award was presented at the recent Bulldog Media Relations Conference in San Francisco.

The Palm campaign was designed to help drive seasonal demand for the latest Palm™ handheld models and accompanying software and add-on components. In addition to outreach to top print and online media outlets, A&R Edelman initiated a grass roots radio blitz to stimulate consumer awareness with on-air contests and product giveaways. A&R Edelman based the campaign around spring holidays and events such as Mother's Day, Father's Day and graduations.

As a result of the three-month campaign, Palm received 1,100 references in radio mentions in the top 12 U.S. metropolitan areas, including prominent airtime on ABC, FOX, NBC and CBS stations. The campaign also attracted feature stories in top outlets such as the Associated Press, BusinessWeek, New York Times, Time, USA Today, US News, Wall Street Journal and more. The A&R Edelman team helped generate coverage in more than 100 print, broadcast and radio outlets. In the end, the campaign created a 10-to-one return on investment for Palm.

This past May, A&R Edelman also received the Upside PR High Achiever's Award, an award given by Upside Magazine editors honoring PR professionals for outstanding achievement in the field of press relations.
